Greet the Grass at Ohio Golf Courses
A recent addition to Ohio’s plethora of fine courses came in the form of the Golf Club at Stonelick Hills in Batavia. Numerous trees and water make the gently meandering course feel like a pleasant stroll to grandmother's house. But beware! The woods eat balls at Stonelick. Fortunately, you're saving on green's fees (not over $55) so a few lost Titleists won't be so hard to swallow. In Lagrange, OH, Grey Hawk Golf Club "is a championship course built to USGA specifications" with ten lakes and streams that offer tranquility (in nature) and frustration (in golf).
The combination of the two is more than enough to justify the already-reasonable greens fees (under $50, even at peak).
Depending on the location of your Ohio golf experience(s) the courses you find in the Buckeye State may use Bermuda or bentgrass on the greens. When you schedule your Ohio tee time ask the customer service representative about the surface on the course so you can research the surface before your scheduled tee time. If you schedule an online tee time review the information on the website carefully to determine the type of grass used.
Depending on the type of grass, you may need to read and stroke your putts differently. Bermuda greens do have more grain and you must take this into account; bentgrass can have grain but it’s less likely to impact the roll of your ball. The difference in grasses can make playing Ohio golf courses more challenging for golfers who are not familiar with the surfaces.
